For years I suffered with hormonal migraines. I had the odd one or two from the age of 14 which completely debilitated me. Then after my second child was born they became more frequent.
I would continue as best I could, whilst clutching my head and vomiting. I would still drive the children to school and go to work, with a carrier bag in the car in case I was sick. Fortunately my husband at the time and I had our own business, I would lay on the office floor, just getting up to answer the phone. This would happen up to 3 times a week. Often at weekends, I would be in bed for 24/36 hours. When I look back now I have no idea how I got through those years.
I tried so many things, eliminating the commonly known triggers. I was on a gluten free diet for 4 years, the cellulite disappeared but the migraines continued to plague me. It wasn’t unusual to call the doctor out who would inject me with a sedative to get me off to sleep and put me out of my misery.
I have so much empathy for anyone who suffers with migraines, they are so debilitating, the pain is so dull you are physically sick. This is no headache you can take a paracetamol for. It’s due to a hormonal imbalance. Often caused by the natural drop in progesterone levels and the increase of oestrogen and other hormones.
Over the years a new prescription drug came out and my GP asked me to try it. Zomig, (Zomiltriptan, a tiny little pill that gave me my life back. Within 30 minutes of taking it I would be free of pain and almost normal again. The only side effect for me was it would make my muscles and my throat very sensitive, flu like symptoms, I could deal with that.
I’ve never liked taking medication but this was a godsend and something I had to have on me all the time, in case of a crisis. Over the years I have reduced the dosage to half of one, although it can be difficult to bite half of the pill, they are so small.
Having dealt with breast cancer for the second time, I learnt about essential oils and how Frankincense fights cancer cells, especially breast and ovarian cancer. I was looking for organic Frankincense and I was introduced to Young Living Oils. I now use Frankincense daily in my moisturisers which are also organic. I no longer use chemically ladened skincare and household products.
Frankincense Oil has many benefits aiding brain injuries, tumours, arthritis, Parkinson’s disease, scarring and many more.
I invested in a starter kit, a beautiful box which held several bottles of organic essential oils. There is no comparison here to what you buy in the pharmacy or off any shop shelf. Young Living Oils are pure and highly concentrated.
The main reason why I’m writing this blog is the migraines became less frequent over the years but are occurring more often since I am now full into the menopause and having hot flashes. I’m a bit of a late starter at 57. Because of the cancer I really didn’t want to continue taking the Zomig, so I tried the Peppermint essential oil, rubbed a drop into my forehead and temples and then breathed deeply into what was left on my hands. Within 5 minutes the migraine had gone.
Peppermint Oil combats and aids, allergies, chronic fatigue, multiple sclerosis, migraines/headaches, hot flashes, IBS, radiation damage, sciatica and many more.
